The
CO2 emitted from the operation of buildings in the UK accounts for over 50% of the
total UK CO2 emissions. If you include CO2 from
manufacturing, transportation of construction materials and transport of people
(usually to and from buildings) this figure increases to 75% of the total UK CO2
emissions. Around
the world, governments are urging their citizens to use energy from more
environmentally friendly and renewable sources.
Saving energy and reducing waste is hugely important in the
global effort to reduce harmful carbon emissions. Construction plays a significant role in the UK economy and
the overall environmental impact is considerable. Just over half the UK's
total carbon dioxide emissions are attributed to buildings. The correct
identification and specification of products and services could significantly
help to reduce the impact of the construction industry on the environment. |
